May-October are the months where Newport SHINES! There are so many fun things to do here wether you are enjoying a couples retreat or planning a girls trip / bachelorette party. This guide will give you my top list of Hotels, Restaurants, Activities and Airbnb’s to help you plan the perfect trip!

Places to Stay

Gardiner House: breakfast in the morning in the sunroom, pilates on the lawn, clean and beautifully designed rooms and an excellent location - this is my favorite in-town recommendation

The Vanderbilt: An Auberge property so you KNOW everything will be designed to perfection - they have an amazing restaurant, cocktail area and a rooftop restaurant open in the summer for sunset cocktails

Castle Hill Inn: A BEAUTIFUL iconic newport property outside of town for a little R&R with the most beautiful views. They have several rooms that are little cottages by the beach and it’s home to the amazing lawn for lounging and drinks!

Airbnb’s: found a few cute airbnb’s that seem like they are in great locations!

Things to Do

Sailboat Harbor Cruise - this is BY far my favorite thing to recommend to people when they visit Newport. These cruises leave from Bannisters Wharf so it’s super convenient and are a great thing to do before or after a dinner reservation. I like the following companies: Sightsailing of Newport & Newport Classic Cruises

Visit the Lawn at Castle Hill Inn - It’s a classic Newport spot for an all day hang or to catch the sunset- it always seems so crowded when you first walk up but i ALWAYS somehow end up finding a place to sit and if all else fails, wear something you’d be okay to sit in the lawn in. Keep in mind you’ll need to drive here or take an uber!

Cliff Walk- for those of us that need a more active start to the day the cliff walk is perfect. there are options to make it much shorter but if time allows, doing the entire thing is a great activity. Below is a map of my favorite part of the cliff walk!

Pilates at the Gardiner- on summer mornings my favorite Pilates studio (Thrive) does an outdoor mat pilates class on the lawn of the Gardiner. After class, they bring out green juice which is such a fun touch - this can be booked on the mind body app

Newport Beaches: Gooseberry Beach, Second Beach or Third Beach are my favorites

Shopping: Clothing: Michael Hayes for clothing - I’ve gotten so many amazing dresses there, they carry Simkhai, Staud, etc Home Decor: Cottage & Garden (great vintage pieces), Wald & Sea - amazing home accessories and great prices, HomePort - my FAVORITE place to get unique accessories and beautiful table linens

Farmers Markets: if you stay longer than a weekend, every Wednesday there is a farmers market on Bellevue Avenue with all of my favorite local vendors

Where to Eat & Drink

Coffee / Breakfast Bites

  • Nitro Bar - BEST EVER - I always get a nitro cold brew with cinnamon on top or one of their special menu items highly recommend following them on instagram or tiktok to see what’s new on the menu

  • Beaucoup - Down on lower thames, great for pastries and they have some really amazing home accessories and clothing items

  • The Coffee Grinder - Best Chai Tea Latte’s and home made banana bread - it’s to die for!

Lunch

  • Clarke Cooke House - the outdoor bistro seating is first come first serve and there is typically room at the candy store bar for lunch but I highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. The midway bar is great for drinks and sunset!

  • Black Pearl - perfect place to sit for a casual lunch to watch the sailboats come in and out of Bannisters Wharf

  • Bar at 22 Bowens - I LOVE sitting at the outdoor bar here with a glass of sancere, ceasar salad and french fries

Dinner

  • Clarke Cooke House: is my number one recommendation for all seasons but especially summer- it’s an iconic Newport spot and in the summer you can choose to make a reservation at the candy store/bistro or the upscale dining option on the 3rd floor via Resy. The best part of summer at the Cooke House is their summer sushi menu / sitting at the sushi bar - always a favorite!

  • Giusto: A great location to catch a sunset and they always have great menu items that are changed seasonally

  • Flora: Flora is the newest Newport addition and has quickly become one of my FAVORITE places for dinner or drinks. The bar area and indoor section is so beautifully designed and is front and center for sunset. They also just opened their outdoor seating last summer and both options can be booked on Open Table

Night Owls:

I’m normally in bed by 10 pm but for my night owls here are a few places to go out post-dinner

  • The Landing -live music, super casual, great for a group (my husband asked me to add this because he loves it so much so definitely great for a group of guys + girls), keep in mind they normally have a cover charge

  • Clarke Cooke House Midway Bar: located on the second floor up 2 sets of stairs when you first walk in, this is my favorite place to meet friends for a late night drink

  • Midtown Oyster: I like the bar on the second floor and they have live music
